Great Falls, Montana to Calgary, Alberta – 6th February

So yesterday ended up a long day. We were on the road by 9.00am but were battling bad weather the whole way which made for very tiring driving.

This photo doesn’t do justice as to how bad the weather was. At some stages we had about 10 meters visibility in front of us and were very pleased the road was dual carriage way all the way home as to face oncoming traffic would have been scary.

It was nice to see the border crossing and we had no issues crossing back into Canada. They weren’t interested in Toque at all but had some interesting questions regarding the car. They wanted to know if we had done any modifications, so we mentioned the oil change and the new tyres. As they came under the $1,900 allowance, we were let in with no charges.

Had to laugh as we switched to the CBC local radio station, and they just happened to be reporting on the weather. The forecast was for freezing fog, freezing drizzle and snow flurries – welcome back to Canada!!!!

So, this was the odometer reading when we left.

This was the odometer reading when we got home. A total of 10,061 kilometers in total.

This was our trip on our last day.

This was our trip home from Phoenix to Calgary.

And this was the trip route in total. So, that is one third of the U.S. done – 2/3rds to go. We were adding up how many of the U.S. states we have been to and there are a few more to tick off our list. We also discussed how many of the provinces in Canada we had been to and there are three of those to go of which one we will never do – that is called Nunavut (None of it). We will be able to say, once we visit the other two, that we haven’t been to None of it but have been to the Rest of It – Fraser’s sense of humour.

It is good to be home and the washing machine has been going nonstop; shopping now complete; bags packed away and one very happy pooch snuggled away in her favourite cave under the desk.

It was a great road trip and where we stayed in Phoenix exceeded our expectations so much that we have booked in for four months next winter. We are already planning another road trip to Phoenix which will take us more into the middle of the U.S. and to areas we have never been to – watch this space!!

  1. Dear Diane & Fraser,

good to hear that you arrived home safely. And what a wonderful journey it was !!! Thanks a lot for sharing your adventures with us. We tried to imagine what we could see in Central Europe, if we would do a 10.000 km circuit. (See attached sketch for more details).

We could visit 13 different European Countries with 150 driving hours :

Lilienthal (Germany) Amsterdam (Netherlands) Brüssel (Belgium) Luxemburg Paris (France) Madrid (Spain) Lissabon (Portugal) Barcelona (Spain) Marsaille (France) Zürich (Switzerland) Munich (Germany) Vienna (Austria) Prag (Tschechien) Berlin (Germany) Hamburg (Germany) Kopenhagen (Denmark) Stockholm (Sweden) Oslos (Norway) Lilienthal

We hope you find this idea of comparison interesting 😉

For a next FaceTime Session we should wait at least 2 weeks beause of a strong flue und cough we aleady have to fight more than 3 weeks to get a bit back to normal ! It will take a while (no Covid).

We hope you are all fine and come back quickly to your daily routine in Calgary.

    Love from Wolfgang & Marlene

  2. An amazing trip Di and Fraser! I’m looking at that weather there and thinking of the 40° days we’ve had here, and don’t know which I would rather…
