All good plans of mice and men go astray and that is certainly what happened today. Our intention was to get to the town of Halfweg, after 27k of cruising and moor up for the evening. Unfortunately, a rather pivotal bridge on our route was out of action today and not planned to be back in action until sometime tomorrow-hence-Plan B was thought up.
Our route was to always go around the south east corner of Schipol Airport and then onto our planned mooring at Halfweg where we would have access to power, water, shower and clothes washing facilities, but, alas, 7k short of our final destination a road lift bridge was KAPUT.
Plan B was to moor up short of the closed bridge for the evening on a free mooring but with no facilities. We also needed an address to have for the Uber driver to pick us up tomorrow to take us to Amsterdam Central Railway Station.
As we were not close to shower facilities Fraser was brave enough to go for a swim and then he hosed down with the outside shower on the boat. Di topped and tailed in the bathroom. She was not as brave – or crazy.

We were practically under the southeast runway of Schipol Airport and were able to see the Dunlops dangling and read the brand name.

Our final evening was spent reminiscing about the times we have shared on boats in the Netherlands and the UK and the most wonderful memories that we have made over the years. Who knows where our next meeting will be.

So this was the area that we covered whilst on Old Gilly for the week. The provinces have been North and South Holland.
