Venture Out, Disneyland for Retirees – 12th December

Well, we have accomplished our first ten days at Venture Out. It has taken us a week to settle in as there are a lot of “life administration” tasks to be carried out as being in a +55 park which is full of old people, there is a sh%#t load of registration forms to complete.

One of the first tasks was to reintroduce Toque to the dog park. She has had a definite upgrade to her mode of transport this year – well, only for the month of December. Our landlords, Gabby and Linda, have left a golf cart in our driveway until January which they have very kindly said that we can use. The dog park is on the far side of where we reside which is probably just over a kilometer away and we like to take her there  twice a day. After December, it will be back to the basket on the front of the bike. They have very strict rules about dogs not being walked around the park. They are either on your property or in the dog park and that is the only place they want them to do their ablutions – crazy stupid and unfair to the dogs. So, you have to either take them over to the dog park on a golf cart or on a bike. Of course the big dogs go on the carts and it is the funniest thing to see these huge dogs sitting up there looking like hoomans. We sneak out each night in the cover of darkness when they are all in bed (usually by 7.00pm) and we take Toque down to the only three grass areas in the park and we let her have her way with the green stuff!!!

The dog park is a great facility but for an old dog it can be overwhelming as there are 225 dogs registered for the park and of course they are all shapes and sizes and energy levels. The huge majority of them are very well behaved but you always get those few that are rogues which you can guarantee they are just mimicking their rogue/boorish owners.

Some people of course always have to one-upmanship everyone else. This cart even had a Ford emblem on the front of it and though it was electric he had a recording of a soft Ferrari engine sound happening – it was really quite cute.

So, this is why we like the place. This is our outlook calendar of our first full week here, that of course we have to link and synch with one another. How else would we be able to know what each of us is doing. We have only had the opportunity to register for just over half of our activities so far as still sorting ourselves out. We also need to accommodate Toque, who with the help of June and Joyce, make sure that she is never on her own. They are both elderly widows who have lost their pets but love the company of furry ones – it is a win/win for everyone.

Our accommodation this year is a huge improvement from our previous time here. We will be in the same place for the four months and have room for visitors to stay, of which we have a few planned. It is probably about three times the size of a canal boat, so for us it is luxurious. It has all the required amenities to a perfectly satisfactory standard.

We will take it week by week to see if we blog or not, as it is only worth posting if there is new and interesting stuff to share.
