We made it – whoa!!!!

This is as far south as we go. We are approximately 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. On our arrival at our friends Janice and Tom’s place, getting out of the car we were hit with very humid air. Certainly not something we are use to.
Our connection to Tom and Janice goes back to November 2000 when we met them whilst walking The Milford Track in New Zealand. The walk is also known as the Walk on Top of the World. It is indeed beautiful and quite remote. Not remote enough though that they can still get the helicopters in to replenish the lodges with wine and five-star fine dining. You can do the walk by roughing it and staying in the freedom walkers lodges, but we all opted for the more civilised route.
We last visited Janice and Tom back in 2002 and nearly got to see them again in 2013 when they came up to Banff. Unfortunately, the floods of 2013 washed out the road and we were unable to see them. There does seem to be a connection with floods and these guys as during the 2017 floods in Houston their beautiful home got hit very badly by the flooding of the bayou.

This is a photo we took in front of their pool on this visit.

This is a photo of their pool from roughly the same spot in 2017. Their pool is in the front entrance courtyard and the bayou is behind the house and down about 20 meters. They ended up being out of their house for nine months.
We had a lot of catching up to do our first day there.
