Trees, Trees and Bloody Big Trees – 26th November

Specky, specky, specky – Australian translation to normal English – SPECTACULAR.

Today was all about visiting the forest giants in Northern California which it is famous for. Before we start, we will mention for the umpteenth time that the weather was perfect yet again.

This was our route for the day but unfortunately it doesn’t show you all the detail of several off shoots that we took. What it does show is our progress down the coast of California.

We headed backwards a few miles to the Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park where we did a loop through the redwood forest to start the day off.

At the entrance to the park was the ranger’s office where we stopped to get some information and we just happened to park right in front of this perfect juvenile example of a sequoia tree. No date as to its age but it was just perfect – hopefully no one will look at it as a potential Christmas tree.

We could keep crapping on as to how big these guys are but it is hard to gauge it unless you have a comparison, so we thought we would use the car to help with that.

We also thought we would try a little video clip – it is kitschy but breaks the monotony of having has repeat ourselves.

After the forest drive it was back out to the coast road.

Like the forest, our pictures aren’t going to do it any justice. We pulled off a few times to just watch and listen to the breakers thunder in and be awed. It is still king tides but it appeared different today as the water was a lot more churned up. The final day of the king tides is tomorrow. Not going to mention how wonderful the weather was🤪🤪🤪

There are only so many pictures you can take of trees and there aren’t many variations that we could think of, so just enjoy the photos for what they are.

The remainder of the day was spent tracking in a southerly direction to a town called Fortuna. We are using accommodation apps such as Trivago, Bookings.com etc. to seek out our nightly sleeping arrangements and are coming up with some weird crap. App says no dogs, get to that hotel and they will allow dogs. App says $140 for the night, at the hotel they say $160, and they won’t meet the lower price even though we show them the website. The hotel says they aren’t interested and unless you pay their rate you can go away. We are finding these apps are just a bit on the flaky side, but we are mastering our own systems now.
